Where necessary the GPs can issue a private prescription for collection from a pharmacy or to be delivered to any UK address, whether at home, work or on holiday. There is no fee for issuing prescriptions but you will pay for your medication, and for postage, even if under the NHS you are ordinarily exempt.
If the doctor thinks that your symptoms require further investigation or treatment, they can issue an open private referral letter to enable access to continued treatment. You would then need to pay for any treatment.
If it is appropriate, GPs can also issue private fit notes.

If you would rather follow up your call with a visit to your own GP, you can do this and they will arrange treatment through the NHS. The main purpose of this service is to provide prompt access to a GP.
